Time To Speak Some Unsaid Word
01 August 2026 • 22:58 Pm •In Memories– Sector 46, Gurugram, India
Some people hold a special place in our lives; their memories always return, bringing both peace and the quiet, heavy discomfort of loneliness. I considered making tonight’s post the final entry of this "Weekly Wisdom" series, but I held myself back—I couldn't bear to break the rhythm. I know my current emotions weigh heavily right now, but for those who have walked this 1.5-year journey with me week after week, understanding the why matters. Before stepping back into 2019, here are a few words that capture the exact pulse of what I am feeling tonight:
Dil na-umeed nahin, nakaan hi toh hai,
Lambi hai gham ki shaam, magar shaam hi toh hai.
(English Translation)
The heart is not hopeless, it is only unsuccessful;
Long is the evening of sorrow, yet it is only an evening.
May 2019 arrived like unmuted thunder, finally giving a name and a face to the inner turmoil. But the greatest challenge loomed right at home—sharing this truth with the family I lived with, who loved me fiercely, yet remained separated by an invisible gap, whether with my father or mother. I couldn't find the courage to speak the words aloud.
So, I chose a different path. Instead of asking them to help me find myself or rescue me from my confusion, I decided to engineer my own roadmap—figuring out how, step by step, I could finally inhabit my true self. I immersed myself in research, hunting for souls who had walked this exact thorny path before me.
That search brought light into my darkest corners. I discovered Nitasha Biswas, India’s first Miss Transqueen. Reading about how she navigated her transition in Delhi while battling gender dysphoria made me realize I wasn't alone; women like her had already carved out an authentic path. Then, through the TV show Satyamev Jayate, I found Gazal Dhaliwal, the acclaimed Bollywood screenwriter who spoke with breathtaking candor about her childhood dysphoria and her journey to self-acceptance in Mumbai.
Those two women became the fuel that kept my fire burning. I would stare at their photographs for hours, imagining the day I, too, would see my true self in the mirror. Naturally, my research pointed toward Thailand as the global sanctuary for gender affirmation surgeries. But sitting in a small town in Uttarakhand with zero income, the dream of flying abroad felt completely impossible
Finding the Path Forward
I refused to lose hope. After months of scouring websites and support pages, I discovered Dr. Narendra Kaushik at Olmec Hospital, Delhi—widely regarded as one of India's finest surgeons, a man who has sculpted new beginnings for so many. I reached out. Through a series of conversations, the heavy fog began to clear as I learned about the spectrum of gender affirmation surgeries:
Penile Inversion Vaginoplasty: The traditional, widely trusted approach repurposing existing tissue to construct the vaginal canal and labia.
Peritoneal Pull-Through Vaginoplasty: An advanced technique utilizing the abdominal lining (peritoneum) to build a self-lubricating, elastic vaginal canal.
Intestinal / Sigmoid Colon Vaginoplasty: A specialized procedure utilizing a small section of the colon to ensure optimal depth and natural lubrication.
Orchiectomy: A foundational surgical step removing the testes to naturally suppress testosterone production.
The Medical Blueprint: Hormones and Mind
My consultations brought profound clarity regarding both the financial reality and the timeline. I learned that a transformation like this doesn’t happen overnight; it demands a dedicated foundational period of 1.5 to 2 years on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Often described as a "second puberty," this essential stage relies on anti-androgens and estrogen to safely lower testosterone levels while developing feminine secondary sex characteristics. Understanding that my body required this 18-to-24-month hormonal groundwork gave me a structured, realistic blueprint for the journey ahead.
Before even crossing the threshold of HRT, however, I discovered another mandatory milestone: a thorough psychological evaluation. Consulting with a qualified psychiatrist or psychologist is essential to process the emotional landscape, ensure mental well-being, and assess gender dysphoria. Upon completing these sessions, they issue an official Gender Dysphoria (GD) Diagnosis Certificate—the vital legal and medical clearance required before an endocrinologist can safely prescribe hormone therapy.
The Lockdown Collision
Gathering this intel and crafting my blueprint consumed another nine months. By March 2020, I had mapped out my trajectory all the way to 2022. But the ultimate test—facing my family with my raw reality—was still waiting.
Just as I was preparing myself for that conversation, the COVID-19 lockdown struck. Until then, living alone had been my shield; isolation offered a strange comfort where I could manage my depression and anxiety in private. Suddenly, I was confined 24/7 with three family members—Mom, Dad, and my elder sister. Ever since I gained consciousness, I had been an island, navigating life entirely on my own. Being forced into constant proximity triggered my anxiety and dysphoria to unbearable heights. I desperately searched for a place to hide, but in the tight confines of a lockdown, solitude vanished.
It led to a breaking point after a month and a half. I vividly remember sitting down for dinner around 10:00 PM in May. In a moment of raw vulnerability, I cracked open the door to my truth—though I still lacked the courage to say I was suffering from gender dysphoria or wanted to transition. Instead, I confessed that I didn't like girls and wasn't like other boys. I braced myself for rejection, expecting the harshest blow.
Instead, something surreal happened. They accepted it with surprising grace. Seeing me as the academic anchor of the family, they tried to console me by citing examples of famous gay personalities. In that fleeting second, I felt safe. But as lockdown restrictions eased and businesses reopened, my family returned to their daily routines.
Yet, a crushing heaviness lingered in my chest—the weight of an incomplete truth. That unexpressed reality triggered my anxiety with a vengeance. By July 2020, while my mind had traveled an exhausting three-year odyssey from self-discovery to speaking my first fragments of truth, my physical reality remained unchanged. I found myself lying right back on the exact same couch where I had confronted my reflection in 2018.
In the next edition of Weekly Wisdom, we will explore how I finally claimed my complete truth before my family and how my life shifted from a Tier-3 setting to a bustling Tier-1 city where my true future was waiting.
